Our Founder
When Shonda Brock's stepfather was living with dementia, she watched a broken system fail him. They nearly needed him to fail out of the system, before he could receive help. Her family wanted to care for him, but they kept running into barriers that stopped them from giving him the help he needed. That experience changed the course of her work.
Shonda brought real-world experience to the problem, “So your parent has dementia, what to do next?” She served as a Captain in the U.S. Army; built a career in medical sales and spent several years owning and running home care businesses. Along the way, she saw the same pattern again and again: families who love their seniors but don't know where to start.
For more than a decade, she has listened to families' stories and advised hundreds of caregivers, all while looking for ways technology could make the road easier.
In 2023, she founded Start Smart Plus to give families what hers didn't have: a clear plan. Every SSP journey starts with a conversation. We hear your family's story and build a personalized care plan, backed by a family portal that keeps everyone on the same page.
Shonda is also building a network of technology partners and innovative companies that help seniors stay safe and independent at home. SSP does the legwork of finding the right resources and expertise, so families don't have to. Then we bring it all together in a plan that fits their needs.
