Shonda Brock

Our Founder

Shonda Brock is a compassionate, relatable, and open startup founder who profoundly understands the challenges and opportunities of senior caregiving. Her leadership experience as a Captain in the U.S. Army, her extensive background in medical sales, and several years of owning and operating a home care business gave her a deep understanding of ways to resolve existing challenges of unpaid caregivers and the seniors they love. 

In her own family, she experienced a broken system that failed her stepfather, who was suffering from dementia, and the anguish of her family, who was prevented from providing needed care. As a result, she has spent more than a decade championing families and their stories, advising hundreds of caregivers, while researching ways to use technology to overcome today’s challenges. 


Shonda launched Start Smart Plus to advocate for caregiver wellness and provide a new level of services to meet the need of helping seniors stay in their homes and achieve a greater quality of life.
